allora & calzadilla - la noche que volvimos a ser gente
Allora & Calzadilla is an artistic duo formed by Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla who lives and works in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Through a complex practice based on research, Allora & Calzadilla critically addresses the intersections and complicities between the cultural, historical and geopolitical aspects with particular attention to the island of Puerto Rico and its complex economic, social and political conditions, from where they are pronounced on universal subjects.
The interdisciplinary nature of his interventions is accompanied by an expanded use of artistic techniques that include performance, sculpture, sound, video and photography. His attentive and dynamic approach to the history of art is materialized in a sharp attention to both the conceptual and the material, the metaphorical and the literal.
Allora & Calzadilla. La noche que volvimos a ser gente is the first exhibition of the collective in Latin America and includes three essential large-scale projects in its body of recent work:
1) Stop, Repair, Prepare: Variations on Ode to Joy for a Prepared Piano (2008)
2) The Great Silence (2014)
3) The Night We Became People Again (2017)
