news | gala porras-kim is part of in minor keys, the 61st international art exhibition of la biennale di venezia

Gala Porras-Kim was selected by Koyo Kouoh for the Applied Arts Pavilion in the Arsenale—developed in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum, London—for the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, In Minor Keys.

The artist, participating out of competition, explores the complex relationships between cultural artifacts, museums, and the institutional conventions that classify and narrate their place within history. The project brings together drawings, sculptures, and video that reflect her ongoing engagement with frameworks of conservation and the processes through which different actors in the museum field, including conservators and curators, shape the meaning and function of cultural objects. In doing so, Porras-Kim’s investigations resonate with the exhibition’s approach of looking aslant at the archive.
