Mariana Castillo Deball presents Ella es la luna and she lights the darkness at the Neues Museum Nürnberg in Germany. She works at the intersection of art, archaeology, and cultural history. Her sculptures, paintings, prints, and installations explore the role of objects in identity and historiography.
At the heart of the exhibition is her engagement with the Nuremberg Map of Tenochtitlan, the first European map of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan. It serves as an exemplary illustration of the history of the colonization of present-day Mexico. Castillo Deball has developed a series of works based on this map into a textile installation that will cover the majority of the museum's facade.
