exhibition | mariana castillo deball: stringing beads

Mariana Castillo Deball's Stringing Beads show features new ceramics and drawings that explore the fragility and instability of human existence. Handmade ceramic beads are woven into a convoluted, modular structure that draws comparisons between storytelling processes and craft methods.  The potter's wheel's revolving motion and this linear perception of time are contrasted by the artist: history both advances and repeats itself.  In light of this, her installation constructs its own universe and tackles pauses and disruptions in the historical transmission process as well as the cycles of building, tearing down, and rebuilding, much like in the Tower of Babel.
