Working across film, installation, sound art, animation, drawing and performance, Carlos Amorales is one of the most celebrated artists based in Mexico today. Nowadays, he presents the show Words of Mouth and Hands at kurimanzutto gallery, his first solo exhibition in New York. Featuring a video installation with a set of original music scores and works on paper, the show is built upon a myth he imagined – where a “serpent created the underworld by burrowing through the earth with its voice”. This time around, Amorales sets out to trace musical language.
