Working as production assistant in advertisement for many years gave Doroteo Parra the correct perspective about the artist’s practice. In advertisement, every product or idea is fabricated to look attractive and desirable even when it’s not: it can be propaganda or communicate hidden intentions. Marketing remains close to the visual arts and tends to represent things that can play a trick and manipulate, suggest or give orders about what or not to do following the script of a plan.

Doroteo Parra’s work is a collection of clippings and photographs taken from newspapers and magazines, arranged and classified in to particular subjects that related to specific events.

This series of pictures, taken in early 70s shows a hand holding a paper card with a short message written in a neutral sans-serif type that resemble the ones used in blueprints. The world as we know it seems like very old idea. A message written from the past unexpectedly found resonance with this moment of uncertainety.
