Oscar Murillo presents A see of history a project commissioned by Castello di Rivoli for the exhibition Inserzioni.
The project brings together 48 paintings from Murillo’s Disrupted Frequencies series in an expansive painted plane that invites visitors to experience the artwork from below, as though a fallen fresco suspended in time. Comprising a tapestry of woven canvases the installation explores a tension between vision and vastness, imagining new carved territories in a sea of layered marks.
Started in 2013, Frequencies involved attaching blank canvases to school tables around the world and recording the markings made by children, both consciously and unconsciously. These paintings serve as an incomplete record of a global social and cultural frequency. Murillo has painted these pieces using a variety of blue hues and iridescent colors, evoking the ocean and the sky, two elements that both unite and divide geographic areas. History and time become fluid and erratic in this suspended landscape, subject to reconfiguration.
