Éramos felices y no lo sabíamos, is an evocative portrait of one of the most vibrant periods in contemporary art in Mexico. The exhibition showcases the work of twenty-eight artists, including some born in Mexico and others who have chosen to make it their home. On display are 65 works of video, installation, photography, and sculpture.
Ixel Rion Lora's curatorial discourse aims to offer the visitor a reading of contemporary art in Mexico in the nineties, covering two decades of production, from the mid-nineties to the first ten years of the new millennium.
The exhibition is divided into five nuclei, which present thematic axes of great importance during the 1990s for the development of contemporary art in Mexico: the city, space, the social context, identity, and the material. The exercise of bringing together work that reaches almost twenty years of production results for the spectator in a visual change of the transition that was experienced.
